Wood's Vision...
This year, the staff is focussing on Taking Center Stage II. This portal provides valuable resources to help middle schools throughout California move forward. Wood has chosen the four TCSII stages to work with:
Academic Excellence - Wood offers a variety of intervention programs to support all students on their road to academic excellence. In 8th grade, students can interview to be placed in the AVID program.
Developmental Responsiveness - Each year of middle school means new challenges for students. Wood's counselling office provides three counsellors focussing on her own grade level.
Social Equity - As a Title I school, Wood seeks to meet the needs of all students no matter gender, language, ethnic, economic, or educational background. Parents can participate by joining these groups: School Site Council, English Language Advisory Committee, or PTA. Parents can complete the volunteer process and: Supervise lunch or Volunteer in the classroom or office.
Organizational Structures and Processes - Wood teachers and staff participate in many professional development opportunities. We collaborate to create and support a shared vision. Many teachers are trained in SIM, Step Up to Writing, Kate Kinsella strategies, TCI, differentiated instruction, behavioral modification, and a variety of other instructional strategies and classroom practices.
