Notice: Change of WMS Principal

On Monday I announced to staff that there will be a new principal of WMS next year. Cammie Harris, current principal at Lum will move to Wood and I will move to Lum. The reason for this change is that the restructuring plan for Wood will take several years to design and implement. This important and ambitious plan needs consistent leadership. In other words, the same person needs to be in charge as the plan is designed, then implemented. I will be retiring at the end of next year, so bringing Ms. Harris in now insures continuity of leadership as Wood goes through its redesign. Ms. Harris is an experienced principal and has a proven record of success. Under her leadership Lum Elementary School became a California Distinguished School. She also has been a principal at the middle school level in Ravenswood School District in East Palo Alto, where she led a successful effort to raise test scores. She knows our age group, she knows our demographic, and most importantly she understands the level of work required to raise student academic achievement. My three years at WMS have been exciting and very rewarding. We have a strong team to carry our work forward. Ms. Harris and I will work closely to make sure the transition is smooth. Great days are ahead for Wood, and I am confident and honored to be followed by an administrator of Ms. Harris caliber. Thanks for all your support. Jeff Knoth
