I want to take this opportunity to let you know about the results of those tests, as well as the steps taken to address them. The consultants collected two samples from each of 29 locations at Wood Middle School: a “first-draw” sample (after the fountain hadn’t been used for at least 8 hours) and a “post-flush” sample (after the fountain had been running for at least 30 seconds). Both the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the State of California set “action levels” for lead at 15 parts per billion (PPB). An “action level” is the threshold at which action must be taken to ensure potable status. Of the 58 samples collected at Wood, all but one showed concentrations of lead below the action level. The sample from the fountain in Room 209 showed a first-draw concentration of 70 PPB and a post-flush concentration of <5 PPB. That faucet has now been disconnected, and district staff are working to identify the source of the problem. I have attached a copy of chart that shows the lead concentration at each of our fountains for both samples. You can find the full report, along with additional information about the testing program, on the AUSD website (https://tinyurl.com/AUSD-watertests). Please let me know if you have further questions, and I will do my best to get the answers.
